Need Direction with Your High School Plan?

We understand that when you are putting together a high school schedule, other classes you were considering might not work out, schedule conflicts arise, and online classes don’t always cut it when your teens wants interaction with other students and a teacher.

Compass registration is still open, and it is not too late to add a class! Classes begin Friday, September 7, and Wednesday, September 12. For 2018-19 we have core classes, electives, and just-for-fun classes. There are year-long, semester long, and quarter long classes, and several at the AP and Honors level. • If you are not sure what you “should” take for high school, remember that when you are homeschooled, you can mix and match to create an individualized plan with your family. Many college-bound homeschooled teens map out coursework that meets or exceeds the requirements for a standard diploma. You can always look up the minimum coursework that colleges expect to see from their freshman applicants. A typical mix of classes by time you finish high school might be:

  • Laboratory Science: 3-4 credits
  • Math: 3-4 credits
  • English: 4 credits
  • History & Social Sciences: 3-4 credits
  • World Languages: 2-3 credits
  • Fine Arts: 1 credits
  • Electives: 3-4 credits
  • Econ/Personal Finance: 1 credits
  • Health & PE: 2 credits
  • Remember that Compass also has other opportunities for homeschooled teens such as the Alpha Rho Chapter of Eta Sigma Alpha (the National Homeschool Honor Society); participation in the President’s Volunteer Service Awards; a Mock Trial Team, literary magazine, school newspaper, Homeschool String Orchestra, teen parties, and more. Homeschooled high school students or their parents are welcome to contact Compass or attend the Open House on September 5 to schedule a personal conversation about the course offerings and how they might fit into your own portfolio.
