Special Workshop: BLAST (Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training)

Summer is coming and ‘tweens and teens might have an opportunity to supervise younger siblings, watch neighborhood children, or serve as aids in a summer camp. BLAST (Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training) is a highly interactive and energetic class that will get homeschoolers ready for new responsibilities with many necessary sitter skills and basic first aid. Students will use role playing to explore common scenarios they might encounter as babysitters. The workshop will cover minor emergencies, CPR, and choking, but its focus is on sitter basics, injury prevention, safety, kid activities, and getting the job. This workshop is appropriate for boys and wells as girls, ages 11-15 (grades 5-9).
This is a two-part workshop that will taught from 2:30 – 4:30 pm on Wednesday, May 14, and Wednesday, May 21, in the sanctuary atrium at Compass in Oakton. A colorful course booklet and certification card will be provided. See the course outline for specific themes covered. This course also meets the requirements of the Girl Scout Cadette “Babysitter” badge.
BLAST will be taught by ETR (Emergency Training Resources) of Ashburn. The course is associated with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI).
