RunFit Kidz Fitness Program Starts Sept 25…Still Time to Register

Compass is offering an 8-week, integrated physical fitness program for homeschoolers this fall! RunFit Kidz starts Wednesday, September 25, and registrations are still being accepted! This fun, confidence-building program is targeted for students in grades 2-8, but we have families, including parents participating in the program!

Description:

“RunFit Kidz is a fun, non-competitive, co-ed program for mixed age students of all fitness levels. The program is designed to introduce a passion for fitness and running in a supportive group environment with emphasis on the proper mechanics of running, nutrition/hydration, pacing, and personal goal-setting. Each class session will include dynamic warm-ups, strength training, running technique activities and drills, cool-down stretching, and plenty of games, such as relays. Students will earn incentive tokens for completing run distances. Each class session will include health topics with a nutrition tip-of-the-day and discussion of a specific body system or muscle group.

The class will gather each week indoors, but exercise and running will take place outdoors, on the grounds of the wooded UUCF campus. The program is designed to help emerging runners build incremental endurance over 8 weeks, and the group’s accomplishments are celebrated with a 5K (3 mile) celebration fun run/walk. Fall quarter participants will be invited to join other RunFit Kidz students from around northern Virginia for a 5K fun run at Burke Lake Park on Sunday, November 17. Parents who wish to try running or improve their own fitness may register themselves for this class. There is a $20.00 per student supply/registration fee due payable to RunFit Kidz before the first day of class for the race fee, t-shirt, medal, mileage tokens, refreshments, and class supplies. This is an 8-week course that meets in Oakton from 9:45 – 10:55 on 9/25, 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6, and 11/13.”

In addition to fitness, physical activity offers the bonus “boost” to your child’s ability to focus, concentrate, and absorb new information.  Take a look at this article which talks about the benefits of fitness on a student’s learning!
