Homeschool String Orchestra: Violin, Viola, Cell & Bass Musicians Sought

Musicians are needed for the Compass Homeschool String Orchestra! Does your child play violin, viola, cello, or bass? The Homeschool String Orchestra is an opportunity for beginning* and intermediate string musicians to play with other musicians in an ensemble setting.

* Beginning and intermediate students are those who are currently (or recently) enrolled in private lessons on their instruments and have played for a minimum of one year or have participated in an intensive summer orchestra camp. At a minimum, a beginning student should be able to play a D major scale on his/her instrument.

Monika Chamasyan-Dorosheff will be the new conductor for the Homeschool String Orchestra at Compass. She is an educator, recording artist, and professional violin soloist. She serves as concertmaster of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra in Maryland, the New Dominion Chorale in Virginia, the American Festival Pops Orchestra at the George Mason University, along with performing as a member of the first violin section of the Washington Concert Orchestra.

Ms Chamasyan-Dorosheff will provide the orchestral repertoires which are arrangements that have been specially composed to accommodate the range of abilities of all string players in the orchestra.

Students can register online to participate in the Homeschool String Orchestra.  The orchestra will meet at 10:00 am at Compass in Oakton on Wednesdays beginning September 6th. Initial registration is for 7 weeks of orchestra, but the plan is for the orchestra to continue year-long.

For brand-new beginner students, consider Ms Chamasyan-Dorosheff’s “Starting with Strings” small group class which will be held at 9:00 am on Wednesdays. New string musicians will general be ready for the homeschool orchestra after two quarters if interested.
