Free Clay Pottery Class on Wednesday Nov. 19

Compass is planning to offer two “Pottery Around the World” classes in January (K-2nd and 3rd-5th grades). As part of planning for new classes, the new instructors from Jimmy Potters Studio in Fairfax have offered to hold a free clay pottery demonstration class on Wednesday, November 19.

Sculptors from Jimmy Potters Studio will be giving instruction to students on the coil and pinch pot clay methods.  This is a great way to try this class concept to see if your child would enjoy it in January. In return, Compass is looking for parent and student feedback on the instructors and their approach.

Student will be working hands-on with their own portion of clay, but they cannot take the wet, unfired project with them. If your child wants to keep his/her project, you can pay a $10 studio fee to the instructor. Your child’s project will be dried and fired at the Fairfax studio. After ten days, your family can go to the studio to finish and glaze the piece.

The demo class will he held in the Program Building. Start times for the demo class are at 11:00 am, 11:20 am, 11:40 am, 12:00 pm, 12:20 pm, and 12:40 pm, and we can accommodate 12 students are each start time. More than half the spaces still remain. Please RSVP with your first and second choice time and child’s name by contacting Compass. Preference given to students currently enrolled.

If your child is in class and unable to attend the demo class, watch for details on the upcoming “Pottery Around the World” featuring four handmade clay projects such as Moroccan clay tiles, Japanese vase, and pottery projects from the Incas and Africa!
