Featured Classes: Teen Guitar and Open Mic/Jam Session

Compass has several fun options for teen musicians this fall. Sessions begin September 8, so there is still time to get involved!

  • Beginning Guitar for Teens/Adults (12:00 pm- 12:55 pm Fridays)
  • Intermediate Guitar for Teens/Adults (11:00 am – 11:55 am Fridays)
  • Teen Open Mic/Jam Session (1:00 pm – 1:55 pm Fridays)

Beginning Guitar and Intermediate Guitar for Teens & Adults are taught in small group classes using acoustical guitars. In beginning guitar, students will learn basic melodies, beginning chords, and strumming patterns. Intermediate guitar is for students with some prior instruction, such as 2-4 quarters though Compass last year or equivalent. In intermediate guitar, students will continue to learn more advanced melodies and more complex chords. See complete class descriptions online.

Teen Jam Session & Open Mic group is a get-together for teen musicians. Bring your instrument, grab a song you are working on or would like to learn, and experiment playing it along with other musicians. Show off what you know, see what others are playing, and jam under the guidance of a professional musician/guitarist Lee Nathanson. Music can be from any genre, from simple melodies to full songs. The sessions will be fluid and creative and follow the lead of the student musicians. In the past, the group has consisted of guitarists, pianists, and keyboard players. Percussionists, vocalists, bass, or brass musicians are welcome.

Adults are also welcome to register for Beginning or Intermediate Guitar. Classes held at Compass in Oakton and begin on September 8. Register for these classes or others online.
