Featured Class: Lessons in Leadership
Don’t miss the innovative high school program at Compass this fall, “Lessons in Leadership.” Teens will examine the question, “What makes a leader?” as they explore the qualities and traits among leaders and fundamentals of leadership. They will learn to identify and strengthen leadership qualities in themselves- an asset to college readiness, career, and beyond- in this one-of-a-kind high school class where history and civics meet personal development and life skills.
Lessons in Leadership will be taught by Mo Hamilton, a district leader in the Toastmasters International organization and a sought-after consultant in leadership and communication. “What is your definition of leadership?
- Dwight D. Eisenhower defined, “The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity.”
- Steve Jobs proposed, “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”
- John F. Kennedy argued that, “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.”
Did you know Amazon has over 168,000 book titles on the subject? Have you wondered what makes a great leader? Have you considered that leaders come from all realms, not just politics? There are leaders in the performing and visual arts, technology, business, education…even in pop culture.
In this class, teens will study the fundamentals of leadership. Students will be empowered to identify best practices and application of leadership techniques through character studies and student interviews with leaders in our communities. To promote discussion, the class will read and analyze the book, “Lincoln on Leadership: Executive Strategies for Tough Times” by Donald Phillips.”
