Fall Feature: Real Life Math

  • How much sugar do you need when you want to triple the batch of cookies?
  • Would you rather buy one pizza and get half off the second pizza or get 15% off your whole order?
  • From baseball batting averages to baking brownies….you can’t get away from fractions, decimals, and percentages!

Tweens and teens need a solid understanding of fractions, decimals, and percentages before they go into high school math. There’s no better way to make sure your middle schooler is comfortable with these math fundamentals than to see how they are used in Real Life. Students will use real life scenarios and practical applications to make sure they can add, subtract, multiply, divide, and move between word problems and mathematical notation.

Check out Real Life Math: Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages this fall at Compass. The class is geared towards 7th and 8th graders, but motivated 6th graders and 9th graders who need to brush up on skills are welcome. Real Life Math meets at 1:00 pm on Wednesdays starting September 12. Register for this class and others online. If your middle schooler needs a more comprehensive program to prep for high school math, see the full course in Pre-Algebra which meets Wednesdays and Fridays.
