Check Out CrossFit Kids and Fencing this Winter

DSCN1077

This winter Compass has two brand new ways to get kids moving and exercising when it is too cold to play outside!

First, Compass is very excited to introduce CrossFit Kids! Normally you have to go to a specialty gym for CrossFit instruction, but we have certified CrossFit coaches coming right to Compass to offer this cool workout between morning and afternoon classes!

Where else can you use “slam balls,”  kettle bells, and rope ladders to work on the ten areas of fitness: cardio-vascular endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy? CrossFit training will improve a child’s functional movements that are fundamental to all aspects of play and exercise- pulling, pushing, running, throwing, climbing, lifting, and jumping!

CrossFit Kids is offered at 12:00 pm on Wednesdays, starting this week on 1/13/16 for kids in 4th – 8th grade.

Starting this week, Compass is also offering Fencing for Beginners: Epee with instruction from Fencing Sports Academy in Fairfax. Students will learn to use the thin, light weight epee sword while wearing full protective gear as they practice the footwork, attacks, parries, and responses under the rules of Olympic fencing. Kids will enjoy the strategy and competition of fencing as their learn to judge others’ matches and use the wireless, electronic scoring sensors.

Fencing for Beginners: Epee is offered at 3:00 pm on Wednesdays, starting this week on 1/14/16 for kids in 4th – 8th grade.
