Calling All Wizards! “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” Acting Class!

Does your homeschool ever resemble Hogwarts? Does your child identify as Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin? If so, you can’t miss Compass’s all-new acting class, “Scenes from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”!

Muggle actors are needed to portray your favorite wizards- Harry, Hermoine, Ron, Draco, and Ginny- and their children in this 8th installment of the Harry Potter fantasy series. Straight from the Palace Theatre in London, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. Set 19 years after the final book, this new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany, premiered in London’s West End on July 30, 2016.

In this 8-week class, young actors will build dramatic skills such as voice, body language, movement, and memorizing lines while working on a collaborative presentation in which everyone has a role. The class meets at Compass  from 1:00 pm- 1:55 pm on Wednesdays starting January 11. Early registration for this class and others is ongoing.

Wizard-actors need not have read all 7 Potter books, however, they should be familiar with Book 1 (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) or the movie(s) to learn the main characters. Please note that some of the plot in “Cursed Child” may be spoilers to aspects of Books 6 and 7.  “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is written in script form, and is a quick read compared to the other books in the series. Students must purchase, read, and bring to class “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”, (hardcover, ISBN# 978-1338099133.) This book makes a great gift! Take advantage of the winter break between 2nd and 3rd quarter, for reading it.
