Beginning Guitar 1 for Teens and Adults, Starts Jan. 13

Compass students love guitar instructor Lee Nathanson in his Wednesday middle school class, so we are offering a new, Friday section of Beginning Guitar 1 just for Teens and Adults this winter! Learn a new instrument in a comfortable, casual setting while hanging out with interesting people. Students in 8th grade and beyond, “graduated” young adults or college students, or their parents are welcome to register for this class.

Lee Nathanson is a graduate of the Guitar Institute of Technology at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. He also earned both a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Guitar Studies and a Masters of Music in Jazz Guitar Performance at the University of Maryland. Lee has performed in over 30 concerts with the flagship University of Maryland Jazz Ensemble and has participated in the Mid Atlantic Jazz Festival and University of DC Jazz Concert. He has seven years teaching experience at Music and Arts in both Rockville, MD and Oakton, VA, and Jerry’s Music in addition to Compass.

Beginning Guitar 1 for Teens/Adults will be held on Fridays at 12:00 pm at Compass in Oakton. Classes begin on January 13, and are 8-weeks long with an additional 8-week Beginning Guitar 2 available in the spring quarter.

In this class, teens and adults will learn the fundamentals of playing the guitar including basic melodies, chords, and strumming patterns for familiar songs chosen by the instructor and classmates. New chords and new songs will be added each week as students also learn to read music and basic music theory. Students will also learn how to hold, tune, and care for their guitars.

Register for this class and others online before December 16 to receive a 10% early registration discount.
