Announcing First Compass Class for High School Students!

We have heard the pleas from Compass families to offer classes for high school-aged students… and now we have one on the schedule! Help spread the word that Compass is spreading its wings!

SAT Math Prep and Challenge Problems” is an 8-week workshop offered from 3:00 – 3:55 pm each Wednesday starting January 14 on the Compass campus in Oakton.

This course is designed for students in 7th-12th grade who have completed Algebra I.

Description: “Whether you’re getting close to taking the SAT, or you just like a challenge, this class will help you develop the mathematical skills and the confidence you need to demolish standardized tests!  Each class will begin with a lesson focused on a specific content area covered by the SAT. Whether the topic is new or review, we’ll pull the ideas together so you’ll be ready to tackle SAT prep problems related to that topic. As with all mathematics, there are multiple ways to approach every SAT style question. Once students have solved a particular problem, we’ll go back and consider an array of possible approaches. One of our objectives is to increase speed, not by doing the same work faster, but by finding a shorter route to the same correct answer. Students will learn to do rapid assessment and improve their ability to work through problems quickly and accurately. Students must have completed Algebra I (or have permission of the instructor) to register for this class. Any topics beyond Algebra I, such as high school geometry or Algebra II,  that are required to solve an SAT problem, will be covered in class.”
