Science-Sense: Super Sounds (Acoustic Engineering) *

Description:

Science-Sense are weekly afternoon workshops that provide participants an opportunity to engage in hands-on scientific exploration while encouraging a curious and investigative mindset and invoking creativity and imagination.

In Super Sounds, students will experiment with the transmission of sound through different mediums, from the metallic beats to the rhythmic pulses of plastics and the subtle whispers carried by paper. Students will perform hands-on experiments to discover some keys to communication and the secrets of sound travel. Which medium reigns supreme for transmitting sound waves? Be prepared to unravel the mystery and discover the science behind optimal transmission through interactive challenges.

TASGM workshops teach students that art and science share fundamental and overlapping principles including observation, creativity, attention to detail, experimentation, problem-solving, and a commitment to communication and innovation. Creativity and imagination are crucial to designing experiments and hypotheses, and science can be seen as an artistic process when approached with intention, ingenuity, and a desire to explore the beauty within. The fusion of these makes learning more exciting and more tangible. Workshops include a range of activities that cater to various interests and learning styles, including an introduction to meditation to help students learn to sharpen their focus, increase attention, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being, all of which contribute to academic success and a more enriching scientific exploration. Registration is for each 90-minute workshop. All materials are furnished.
