Tom Roth is an experienced basketball coach, trainer, and former collegiate player with more than 20 years of coaching experience in Northern Virginia, Washington, DC, and Maryland.

In high school, Tom was a two-year starter on a nationally ranked team. In college, he was recruited by Shippensburg University, where he was a three-year starter and full-scholarship student-athlete. He was named team MVP, led the team in scoring and rebounding, and helped Shippensburg earn its first PSAC playoff berth.

Tom has served as Development League Commissioner for McLean Youth Basketball, coach for McLean Youth Select girls’ teams, and coach for the Virginia Hurricanes AAU program. In 2025, he was named Fairfax County Youth Basketball League Coach of the Year.

He also founded Heads Up Hoops, where he leads camps, clinics, and individual and small-group training for young athletes. Tom emphasizes positive coaching, strong fundamentals, and smart team play. His instruction focuses on ball handling, passing, spacing, cutting, screening, transition play, pick-and-roll concepts, help-side defense, teamwork, and proper shooting form.
