Hickman, Karen

Karen Hickman is the cp-director of the Northern Virginia Writing Project at George Mason University where she coordinates youth and family writing programs such as the Young Writers Workshops and Student Summer Institute. Karen is a published author with two children’s books to her credit, The Missing Caboose (February 2015) and The Lighthouse Mouse (December 2016), and twenty more manuscripts ready to be finalized. She was honored in 2012 with the Mark Farrington Award for Personal Writing. Karen is a former elementary school teacher at Wakefield Forest Elementary in Fairfax County where continues to teach creative writing electives. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Trinity College and a Masters degree in Library Science at the Catholic University of America where she also completed additional credits in the teaching of writing, creative writing, and poetry.
