We are looking forward to a phenomenal first week of our 14th Compass year! We want to make sure that everyone gets off to a great start, so we have compiled a list of first week reminders. If your question is not answered here, please drop by one of our information desks.
- Additional Classes: It is not too late to add a class to your schedule or to enroll at Compass. If a class has open spaces, we welcome last minute, same-day, walk-in, and late registrations. New families are invited to join us, and there is a “flash sale” of 10% off high school classes through midnight, September 8.
- Reminder Emails: Check for email reminders for each class you are registered for. These emails contain your classroom numbers, teacher contact information, and reminders about supplies. These are sent out on a rolling basis as we start the week. Only Monday and Tuesday reminders have been sent.
- Supply Fees: Some classes have lab or supply fees. Some are payable to the instructor while others are payable to Compass. Check your reminder emails or class description, and make sure these are paid by the start of classes through Venmo, Zelle (some), check, or cash (labeled in an envelope).
- Clubs: Sign up for clubs such as Pickleball, Quiz Bowl Team, Alpha Rho Honor Society, Dungeons & Dragons, Middle School Social Club, and more. Some clubs begin this week, and some begin the week of September 15.
- Music Lessons: Enroll in group music classes like Homeschool Band, Children’s Beginner Band, Starting with Strings (Violin), Beginner Guitar, Ukulele, and Music Theory, or contact us to schedule private music lessons during the day in piano, guitar, drums, violin, cello, voice, and 10 other instruments!
- Private Instruction: Contact us to schedule one-on-one, pair, or small group instruction in French, Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, ASL, or German, or private tutoring in math, reading, writing, sewing, and more.
- Parent Proxy Forms: If someone else is dropping off, picking up, or remaining with your child, make sure you have completed a Parent Proxy Form.
- Teen Form: If your teen age 13+ is going to be dropped off at Compass, make sure you have reviewed the Compass Family Handbook and completed a Teen Form.
- Core Couse Form: If your middle school or high school student is taking a comprehensive, core academic course, such as British Literature, in math, science, English, humanities, or foreign language, or is part of the Reading Rally or Math Mammoth programs, make sure you have completed a Core Course Form.
- Compass Family Handbook: Make sure you have reviewed the Compass Family Handbook for answers to common questions at Compass.
- Offsite Classes: Check the locations and plan for short, mid-day drives to transport kids to our off-site: classes: Nature Quest and Outdoor Survivor, Homeschool Swimming, Ballet Fun, and Natural Leaders.
- Google Calendar: You can merge the Compass Google Calendar with your personal Google calendar to see all special events and important dates on your own view. Learn how to merge here.
- Upcoming Events: Mark your calendar for the upcoming September and October events at Compass:
- Teen First Friday Ice Cream Icebreaker– Friday, Sep. 12 (Free, ages 13+, enrolled at Compass only)
- Beekeeping Basics Workshop– Saturday, Sep. 27 (grades 4th+)
- Food Truck Week- Oct. 6-10
- Homeschool Book Fair- Oct. 14-16
- School Pictures- Oct. 20-24
- Traffic/Parking: Please review the Compass Family Handbook or handout for the guidelines about driving, dropping off, and parking at Compass. Please remember that drop-offs (from kids ages 8+) can only be done by the blue posts in front of the 520 building. You may not stop in the driving lane to drop off at the 510 building. Parents who are driving through, dropping off, and leaving are reminded to continue “straight” along the front and side of the 520 building to exit on the side road (Exchange Place) rather than U-turning in the drive lane.
- Contact Information: Parents are reminded to add Compass phone numbers and Compass email addresses to their contact and/or safe senders lists to keep important information out of spam.
