Awards & Honors

Awards and Honors through Compass are important for any child looking to excel in their community and be recognized for their hard work and dedication in community service and other missions. These honors apply to students for college applications and for resumes for future employment opportunities.

President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA)

Compass is an approved Certifying Organization (CO) for the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA). The PVSA is a prestigious national honor offered in recognition of volunteer commitment. Established in 2003, this award honors individuals and groups who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to volunteer service over the course of 12 months. Service hours can be accumulated on a variety of projects throughout the year.

The PVSA is awarded annually at the Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels. For many, earning one or more awards will be a noteworthy honor on future college or scholarship applications.

President’s Award of Outstanding Academic Excellence

Compass is an awarding organization for the President’s Award of Outstanding Academic Excellence. This award is part of the President’s Education Awards Program (PEAP) through the US Department of Educations and the national associations of school principals (NAESP, NASSP).

The President’s Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence recognizes students who have achieved academic excellence and who are “graduating” from elementary school (completing 6th grade, rising 7th grader); middle school (completing 8th grade, rising 9th grader); and high school (graduating 12th grader). This award is a commendation and validation of academic success for homeschooled students and will be a noteworthy accomplishment on a student’s record or personal resume. An awards ceremony will be held each spring to recognize these students.

American Citizenship Award

Compass is an awarding organization for the American Citizenship Award (ACA). The ACA is a formal award jointly administered by The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). Students will be recognized and receive their awards at an annual ceremony. The ACA is a noteworthy accomplishment on a student’s personal resume and on applications for other honors and college.

To be eligible for this award, students must demonstrate that they promote citizenship and have a good understanding of civic responsibility. This is accomplished by completing fifteen (15) hours of service projects or educational experiences that expand a student’s understanding of citizenship.
