The NAEP’s 2024 bi-annual assessment, called the “Nation’s Report Card”, once again showed that the more than 2/3 of Virginia’s 4th and 8th graders are not meeting reading benchmarks! Only 31% of Virginia’s 4th graders and 29% of 8th graders were at or above proficient reading levels. That is an “F” on any grading scale. The national decline in reading abilities has continued since the pandemic. This is just one reason many people elect to homeschool…but are you doing better at home?
If you are wrestling with reading, fighting over phonics, or struggling with spelling in your homeschool, Compass has many solutions to support your family!
Reading Rally: Compass offers 14 levels of a comprehensive Language Arts program called Reading Rally. This is a once-per-week small group reading class taught by 30+ year veteran reading specialist Catherine Vanlandingham. Reading Rally covers reading, comprehension, spelling, grammar, and writing. Most children won’t need any additional curriculum or classes beyond the once-weekly meeting and homework. Reading Rally is $569 for 14 weeks.
Students must complete a reading skills assessment before registering for a Reading Rally class. These are being held throughout the summer in preparation for fall enrollment. Sign up and pay for the skills assessment online ($125).
