Starting Next Week: Half-Day Cooking Workshops

Too hot for outdoor activities? Compass has a great indoor option for kids, tweens, and teens…half-day cooking workshops. Join us for the Great American Cook-Out workshops with Chef Mimi featuring regional flavors and comfort foods inspired by favorites from picnics and pot-lucks across America. Each workshop is 3 hours, and you register by the day. Daily menus feature an entree, a side dish, and a dessert that use a variety of fruits, vegetables, and fresh ingredients. For the week of July 24-28 join us for:

  • July 24: “Savannah”- Cheesy Grits, Corn Succotash, Baked Peaches with Mascarpone Cream
  • July 25: “San Antonio”- Chile con Carne, Corn Bread, Banana Pudding
  • July 26: “St. Louis”- Gourmet Grilled Cheese, Homemade Tomato Soup, Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • July 27: “New Orleans”- New Orleans Muffuletta, Coleslaw, Big Easy Pralines
  • July 28: “Louisville”- Southern BBQ, Potato Salad, Kentucky Butter Cake

Each day there is a Kids’ class (grades 3-5) from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and a Tweens/Teens’ session (grades 6+) from 1:00 pm- 4:00 pm. Students who are homeschooled, soon-to-be homeschooled, former Compass students, and those who attend conventional or virtual school settings are welcome to enroll in Summer Workshops.

Students will be eating what they make each week and bringing home the recipes and leftovers. These engaging cooking workshops will get students excited about helping in the kitchen, experimenting, and trying new foods. Students will be exposed to healthy ingredients they may not regularly eat and learn valuable life skills. Registration is online and by single-session so families can mix-and-match. Look at the week of August 10 for “El Paso”, “Philadelphia”, “Detroit”, “Milwaukee” and “Lancaster” menus. Cooking workshops are a great way to test if your child would enjoy a 7-week Compass cooking class in the fall.
