Sew Many: Learn-to-Sew Camps & Classes for All Ages

“Sew many” people have asked over the years! Finally, Compass has new camps, classes, and private lessons for kids- and adults- to learn to sew! Students will work with Judith Harmon, a professional seamstress, costume designer, and cosplayer. Enjoy the satisfaction of crafting and creating by hand:

Sew Simple

(1st and 2nd grade) Learn the basics of hand-sewing- pinning and placement, a running stitch, attaching a button, working with a pattern, scissor skills, and stuffing- while creating simple felt stuffies. Two, 5-day workshops are offered:

    • Sew Fun

    (3rd and 4th grade) Learn the basics of hand-sewing- pinning and placement, a running stitch, attaching a button, working with a pattern, scissor skills, and stuffing- while creating stuffed felt friends (designs are more complex than Sew Simple) Two, 5-day workshops are offered:

    • Learn to Sew

    (5th-7th grade) Tweens will learn sewing skills: pinning and placement, scissor skills, running stitch, whip stitch, back stitch, attaching a button, simple embroidery, embellishments, detailing, and stuffing while creating personalized items for their rooms. Two, 5-day workshops are offered:

    • Introduction to Sewing for Cosplay

    (8th-12th grade) Teens will learn basics of machine sewing to create two customized costume essentials- a cape and a vest. Also, fundamentals of hand sewing, sewing patterns, measurements, and more. (Pair this workshop with a 1-week workshop on Crafting Cosplay Accessories)

  • Introduction to Sewing for Cosplay (Mon-Fri, Jan. 11-15) Register Here

    • Style Studio: Fashion Design & Sewing

    (9th-12th grade) Teens explore the history of fashion, fashion design, and machine sewing to share and wear- the fashions that they have designed in this 16-week, semester-long class (2 hours per week)
