Shumway, Alexander
Alexander Shumway has extensive experience with robotics education and competitions through NOVA Labs. He served as a robotics mentor for SuGOBots, RobotMakers, and PushBots Summer Day Camps. He has coached FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League Junior teams and mentored FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams. Alexander competed in FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) competitions from 2016-2020, serving his team in the roles of software captain, outreach captain, programmer, and team member. He was a semi-finalist and three-time medalist at the at FIRST Chesapeake Qualifying Tournament and semi-finalist at FIRST Virginia State Championship with his FTC team. In 2020-2021, he was the software captain and team member with a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team. Alexander was recognized as a Dean’s List Semi-Finalist for the FIRST organization and has exhibited robotics at the NOVA MakerFaire. Alexander is a homeschool high school graduate, former Compass student, and current college student majoring in computer science and mathematics with minor in chemistry.
