Compass Classes Meet 2/19, Off 2/26

Compass Families: Just a reminder that Compass classes meet tomorrow, Wednesday, February 19 as scheduled. The following week, on February 26, we have a “winter break” while the UUCF church facility is in use as a shelter for the homeless as part of the FACETS hypothermia prevention program.

Tomorrow is the last day that Compass can accept donations for the church’s hypothermia prevention program:

Compass will collect personal items that church volunteers will distribute to the homeless. Please consider bringing some of the following items. We will have a bin near the front desk for these contributions:

  • Gently used adult coats, jackets, outer wear
  • Packs of new adult underwear
  • Packs of new adult socks
  • Playing cards
  • Magazines
  • Paperback Books
  • DVD Movies (non-violent)
  • New Travel-Size Toiletries
    • Chapstick
    • Hand lotions
    • Toothbrushes
    • Combs
    • Hand sanitizer
    • Toothpaste
    • Dental floss
    • Tissues
    • Deodorant
    • Moist towelettes/ hand wipes
    • Emery boards
    • Nail clippers
    • Foot lotion
    • Shampoo
    • Foot powder
    • Soap
  • Gift cards for fast food restaurants ($5.00/each)
  • Monetary Donations (Checks can be made out to UUCF with ‘Hypothermia’ in the subject line.)

The church coordinators also asked that Compass children color signs welcoming the homeless guests to the facility. Compass will have several designs of ‘Welcome’ pictures and crayons in the social hall for kids to color throughout the day.

We had many families volunteer to bake muffins to be served to the homeless at breakfast. If you already volunteered, please remember that the muffins need to be individually wrapped in Saran wrap and brought tomorrow.

Thank you for supporting this effort!
