Get Involved! Clubs, Teams, and Activities at Compass this Year!
Compass has a variety of clubs, teams, and activities planned for the coming year! Some are open only to Compass students, and some are open to others in the homeschool community. Follow links below for more information. Sign-up are accepted for some activities through the Activity Fee page, and meetings can be found on the Compass calendar.
- Academic Bowl Club (4th-8th grade)
Practice and participate in area quiz bowls to answer questions on history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, and more. Weekly meetings on Tuesdays from 3:00 pm- 4:00 pm at Compass and various regional competitions throughout the year.
- Alpha Rho Chapter, Homeschool National Honor Society (8th-12th grade)
Student-led organization promoting scholarship, academic excellence, networking, service projects, and socials. Monthly meetings on Fridays from 3:00 pm – 4:15 pm at Compass.
- Astronomy Clubs (6th-8th grade, 9th-12th grade)
The High School Astronomy Club consists of space enthusiasts who discuss current events and discoveries in the field of astronomy and complete their credentials to work on the Pulsar Search Collaboratory project. The Middle School Astronomy Club shares a passion for space topics and participates in Citizen Scientist space investigations. The teams meet bi-weekly with High School Astronomy from 3:00 pm- 4:00 pm on alternate Tuesdays at Compass, and Middle School Astronomy to be announced.
- Civil Air Patrol (ages 12-18)
The William P Knight Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol serves the community through education, service, and emergency response/preparedness. Youth members (“Cadets”) focus on aerospace and cyberspace education, character development, leadership, physical fitness, and community service. CAP meets on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Thursdays of the month from 7:00 pm- 9:00 pm at Compass and 4th Thursday at an alternate location for fitness. CAP CyberPatriots team meets on alternate Sundays from 2:00 pm- 5:00 pm at Compass.
- Compass Collaborative Student Newspaper (3rd-12th grade)
Staff and guest writers needed to contribute creative writing, short stories, poetry, reviews (movie, video, book, or toys), puzzles, riddles, jokes, photos, artwork, comics, or opinion pieces. Staff meets four times per year on the 2nd Tuesday of the quarter from 3:00 pm- 4:00 pm at Compass.
- Crafty Kids Club (2nd- 5th grade)
Kids in grades 2-5 (ages 7-10) stay “after school” to socialize and make themed crafts using a wide variety of materials and techniques. Sign up for Crafty Kids Club by semester (14 weeks). In-person crafters meet on Tuesdays from 3:00 pm- 4:00 pm at Compass. There are options for mailing or picking up kits for at-home crafting for an additional fee.
- Girl Scout Troop 3327 (Kindergarten – 12th grade)
Girls ages 5-18 are invited to participate in Girl Scouts as Daisies (K, 1st grade), Brownies (2nd-3rd grade), Juniors (4th-5th grade), Cadettes (6th-8th grade), Seniors (9th-10th grade), or Ambassadors (11th-12th grade). Troop 3327 holds monthly meetings on the 1st Thursday of the month from 3:00 pm- 5:00 pm at Compass and field trips/fun days on the 3rd Thursday of the month at various locations around northern Virginia.
- Math PIrates Teen Math Club (age 13+, having completed Algebra I or higher)
Math PIrates explore math topics, complete math challenge problems and puzzles, and prepare for the math competitions. The club meets bi-weekly on Fridays from 3:00 pm- 4:00 pm at Compass.
- Mock Trial Team (9th-12th grade)
Teens strong in public speaking, debate, or acting, or interested in law portray witnesses and attorneys in a mock murder case. Interviews for the team are held in May. The team meets 3 times per month on Fridays from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm at Compass.
- Pen Point Literary Magazine (9th-12th grade)
Passionate student writers serve as authors and editors for annual anthology through Compass PenPoint class. Editorial board meets weekly on Tuesdays from 11:00 am – 11:55 am, in hyrbid format- sometimes in person at Compass, sometime over a virtual meeting. Contributing writers and artists are invited to submit fiction, essays, poems, art, and photography 2nd semester.
- Technovation Team for Girls (6th-8th grade)
Middle school girls tackle a community problem by learning to code an app to address the issue and connect resources and needs through Code for a Cause class. Class meets for 26 weeks on Thursdays from 2:00 pm- 3:25 pm at Compass.
- TGIF Teen Game Night (ages 13+)
Teens are invited to drop-in for Teen Game Night for board games, card games, snacks, and social time on Fridays from 4:30 pm- 6:30 pm.
