Encourage Teens & Tweens to be Dramatic!

Tweens and teens have their dramatic moments, and Compass has several winter class options for those who want to develop their dramatic skills for the stage:

Director’s Chair: Phantom of the Opera– Follow in the footsteps of Andrew Lloyd Weber to bring the Broadway classic, Phantom of the Opera, to life. Students will analyze the script, create stage directions, explore the roles of the production team, and make the decisions like a director as they imagine their own lighting, sets, props, and costuming. For grades 9-12 on Fridays at 11:00 am starting on January 20.

Tweens Acting Out: No Exit Escape Room– Tweens collectively brainstorm and collaboratively write own and perform their own play. What happens when their own, unique characters have to escape from a sticky situation? For grades 6-8 on Tuesdays at 2:00 pm starting on January 17.

Crafting for Cosplay: Leather Work– Students will learn to learn leather-working techniques such as dyeing, cutting, embossing, punching, and hand sewing in order to craft costume accessories for stage or costume play for a favorite fictitious character or an original character they imagine. For grades 9-12 on Mondays at 11:00 am or 12:00 pm starting January 16.

Stage Combat: Swashbuckling, Single-Handed Sword– Learn techniques for single-handed sword-fighting used for thrusting blades such as the rapier or epee along with 5 cuts (attacks), 6 parries (deflecting), and basic footwork to create realistic fight scenes on stage like the sword scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, or Shakespeare. For grades 5-8 on Thursdays at 10:00 am starting January 19.
