Donations Needed for Area Homeless

The Compass Alpha Rho chapter of the National Homeschool Honor Society is organizing a coat and clothing drive for the Lamb Center in Fairfax. The Lamb Center is a daytime drop‐in center which offers housing, job, and substance abuse counseling, medical and dental clinics, breakfast, lunch, showers, laundry services and a clothing closet for homeless neighbors.

Alpha Rho will be taking donations the week of November 30 and December 7 at Compass. During Thanksgiving week, if you are cleaning closets, organizing drawers, or find great bargains while shopping, please set aside:

  • Packs of new adult underwear (men’s or women’s)
  • Packs of new, white undershirts (men’s)
  • Packs of new white cotton crew socks (men’s or women’s)
  • Gently used adult outwear: coats, jackets, gloves, scarves, and hats (no long overcoats or fur coats)
  • Gently used athletic shoes or work boots (not formal or dressy)
  • Gently used adult pants, jeans, sweatpants (not formal or dressy)
  • Gently used men’s belts
  • In addition, the Lamb Center needs personal and hygiene items for their guests:

  • Large back packs
  • Bath towels and washcloths (no hand towels)
  • Travel sized body wash, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, shaving cream, hand sanitizer
  • Disposable double edge razors
  • New hair brushes
  • Note: Children’s clothing and items are not needed, as families with children do not stay in this shelter. Shirts, sweaters, and sweatshirts are also not needed at this time.

Please leave your donations in the large box in Compass’s vestibule at 520 Herndon Parkway, Suite D. Receipts are available at the front desk for your donations if needed for your tax records.
