Donations for Afghan Refugees
Compass is collecting items for refugee families from Afghanistan who have recently fled their home county with very few personal items. Our donations will be going to help families who have resettled at Quantico Marine Corps Base. While many adults and household items are needed, Compass is going to focus on the needs of the children and infants. We are asking for donations of:
- New or gently used/great condition, fall/winter children’s clothing* from infants, toddlers, children, teens (no stains, holes, tears)
- New or gently used/great condition fall/winter coats, hats, boots for toddlers, children, teens
- New socks and underwear for infants through teens
- New diapers, all sizes
- New backpacks and school supplies
- New toys (non-electronic). Basic/timeless toys like soccer balls, books, blocks, puzzles, craft kits
- New children’s linens (bedspreads and sheets)
- Gift cards to Walmart and Target are appreciated so families can select their own items
*Clothing should be sturdy, everyday wear, not party or dressy clothing, and also modest/culturally appropriate
A box is located in the lobby of the Compass 520 Building for donated items, Donations will be accepted from Monday, October 18 through Friday, October 29. Members of the Alpha Rho Honor Society and Homeschool Girl Scout troop 3327 will be sorting and packaging donated items. The GS troop is also collecting new, full size toiletries/hygiene items (shampoo, body wash, tooth paste, hair brushes) if anyone would like to contribute these items as well.
