Compass News & Announcements: Week of Nov. 28-Dec. 2
Welcome back to the second half of second quarter! Winter is around the corner, but there are still many things taking place at Compass:
(1) Registration for 3rd quarter (second semester) classes is ongoing. The 10% early registration discount ends on December 15.
(2) Chocolate Crafters: Calling chocoholics! 3-hour, one-day workshops will be held this Saturday, December 3. Tweens and teens will learn to make molded and foil-wrapped chocolates, dipped pretzels, Chocolate Turtles, Rocky Road, and chocolate candy clay. All candies made in class will be sent home, wrapped and bagged and ready for gift-giving.

- Chocolate Crafters- Teens: Saturday, Dec. 3, 1:30 pm- 4:30 pm
(3) Deck-the-House Gingerbread: Candy-cane columns, licorice lattice, or a peppermint path. A 2-hour, one-day workshop will be held this Sunday, December 4. Build and decorate adorable gingerbread houses with Royal icing and candy decorations. Enjoy your gingerbread house as a holiday centerpiece or a delicious pull-apart treat!

(4) Academic Competitions: Compass is host to a variety of academic competitions. Registration has just opened for our annual Geography Bee and Spelling Bees. Register for most on the Activity Fees Page:
- AMC8 Math Exam (up to 8th grade) will be administered on Thursday, January 19, from 3:30 pm- 4:10 pm.
- Math Kangaroo (1st-12th grade) will be administered Thursday, March 16, 2023. Register by December 15 through the Math Kangaroo USA website HERE. Search by state to find the 3 test times offered at Compass.
- Greater Fairfax Homeschool Geography Bee (grades 4-8) will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 4:00 pm- 6:00 pm.
- Junior Spelling Bee (ages 5-8) will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, from 3:30 pm- 4:15 pm
- Senior Spelling Bee (ages 9-15) will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, from 4:00 pm- 6:00 pm
(5) Calendar Reminders:
The countdown to the end of the quarter is underway. The last week for most fall classes is December 12-16. Classes that had one-day cancellations in the fall will have make-up sessions the week of January 9. Classes having make-ups are as follows. (6) Curriculum Donations: Compass accepts donations of new/like new homeschool curriculum, children’s books, educational games, math manipulatives, etc. Materials need to be less than 5 years old and have no writing or used/missing pages. Donated materials are resold to raise money for the President’s Volunteer Service Awards, and tax deductible receipts are available.
(7) Lost & Found: Remember to check the collection of found items at Compass if you have lost something. We have lots of found items, and any remaining on the last of the quarter will be given to charity.
