1-1/2 Weeks Remain to Apply for Volunteer and Citizenship Awards
Did your child volunteer throughout the last year?
Has your family completed projects and taken field trips to learn about the government, citizenship, and patriotism?
If so, your homeschooled child can earn awards for the activities you are probably already doing! Compass is a certifying organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Awards. Compass also awards the American Citizenship Award to homeschooled students. Compass offers both of these award opportunities at no cost to homeschooled students in the metro-DC area. Recipients no longer have to exclusively be enrolled at Compass. Students throughout the homeschool community can be recognized for their service and citizenship. At-home and virtual volunteer ideas were provided to students whose spring and summer volunteer plans were interrupted by COVID.
Applications for the 2019-2020 award year must be received by midnight on August 31!
The President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) and the American Citizenship Award (ACA) can both be noteworthy recognitions on a student’s activity resume, and they can be used as credentials when a teen applies to college or for other selective awards and programs. The award year runs from September 1 through August 31. Homeschoolers can earn these awards year after year.

These awards are only available to students who were homeschooled for the 2019-2020 year. Students who are new to homeschooling should apply for the 2020-21 award cycle. Students who have not taken Compass classes in the last year will be asked to provide evidence of homeschooling (county acknowledgement of NOIs) for 2019-20 and 2020-21. Applicants should note the requisite, in-person awards ceremony that will be held at Compass’s new location on Wednesday, October 7, at 4:30 pm.. Recipients must be present to receive awards.
